Diesel locomotives
Diesel locomotives represent a special challenge, because the spatial conditions are very cramped. The water for the production of fuel-water emulsions has to be carried, which means extra weight and tank space. On the other hand, the emission limits for diesel locomotives will be tightened in the future. Alternative systems (SCR catalytic converter, particulate filter, etc.) to meet these limits also require space and provide extra weight.
